The Oratorium

The Oratorium was a 'simultaneous' reading, performed on the half-hour. Nine artists read texts, either written or found, aloud into microphones for audiences visiting the Perform Now! event in Chinatown, Los Angeles. The experimental polyphonic event was described as "loud, comic, and melancholy."

Dee Williams (Reading Los Angeles Photographs), Dan Hockenson (Interlexical Homographs in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish), Daniel Lucas (The Permeating Machine: Sequence 1), Ellen Birrell (Sweet Itch and The Tip-Toe Phalanx), Farrah Karapetian (Texts on Time and Traffic), Ginny Cook (A list of all endangered plants and animals in California), Jason Underhill (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead /Story: Substance, Structure, Style and the Principles of Screenwriting / Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? / Hollywood), Kim Schoen (Art-As-Art Dogma), Susan Silton (Tiger and Johannes, from the project By the Crowd They Have Been Broken; By the Crowd They Shall Be Healed, 2009- )

Two artworks were also installed as part of the performance, one by Wendy Mason (Valencia, 2010, Cement, hair extensions, water, pump, hose, bucket, Dimensions variable), and the other by Jason Underhill (A Good Mother, 2008, Video, looped on monitor.)
